A Review of Sheets Laundry Club

Despite being a relative newcomer to the market, Sheets Laundry Club is gaining a lot of attention, with countless positive reviews popping up online. The eco-friendly company produces laundry detergent sheets and several other kitchen and laundry products, as well as personal care items.

Run by Chris and Laurian Videdau—two military veterans—Sheets Laundry Club aims to reduce how much time and effort goes into cleaning your home. It also specializes in making these daily chores as eco-friendly as possible, with less plastic and fewer pollutants than traditional laundry detergent brands.

I know it can be a challenge to wade through all the latest sustainability products as you strive to reduce your own carbon footprint, so I’ve written a detailed breakdown of Sheets Laundry Club and how its products perform.

Laundry Detergent Sheets

Sheets Laundry Club is one of the few detergent companies that wants to cut down on plastic waste and be as eco-friendly as possible with its products. Sheets ships its products in minimal packaging that’s completely plastic free. Its detergent sheets come in both a Fresh Linen scent and a fragrance-free Free & Clear option.

Laundry detergent sheets are Sheets Laundry Club’s main product. Laundry detergent sheets have emerged as an eco-friendly alternative to liquid detergents because they contain no water, so they don’t waste water and they aren’t heavy to ship. They also conserve water by producing few suds, which requires a shorter rinse cycle. Most detergent sheets also boast fewer harsh chemicals, and are typically free of phosphates, parabens, bleaches, and optical brighteners.

The ingredients in Sheets Laundry Club’s Free & Clear laundry detergent sheets are deionized water, naturally derived surfactants (SLS) derived from coconut oil, polyvinyl alcohol, fatty alcohol polyglycol ether (a fully biodegradable nonionic surfactant designed to remove stains), and protease enzymes.

Polyvinyl alcohol is a petrochemical present in virtually every brand of detergent sheet. Reportedly, it does not have a negative impact on the environment through its use in laundry because it is completely biodegradable. But it’s still plastic—albeit a biodegradable one—so this detergent is not completely plastic free, even if its packaging is.

The ingredient “naturally derived surfactants (SLS) derived from coconut oil” is a fancy way of saying they include sodium lauryl sulfate. Despite the fact that it’s derived from coconuts, it’s still a surfactant that can cause skin irritation. So, yes, environmentally these are an improvement over conventional detergents, but the ingredients are by no means ideal.

That being said, these detergent sheets are good at cleaning clothes. Some stains may need pretreatment, but that’s to be expected. At about $0.19 per load, you can’t really beat the price, so as long as you don’t have sensitive skin or allergies, they’re worth a try.

How do they work?

These are so easy to use that it’s borderline childish. All you need to do is take a sheet—or even half a sheet for small or lightly soil loads—out of the box, toss it into the washing machine, add your clothes, and let it do its job.

Never any measuring or mess. You can see why people are switching to laundry sheets.

What other products can you get from Sheets Laundry Club?

Sheets Laundry Club has three categories of products—laundry, kitchen, and self-care. Each of these products is available in subscription plans ranging from once a year to once a month. You can find information about subscriptions and Sheets Laundry Club’s seemingly endless bundle options on the website.

Here are some of the other products you can find at Sheets:

  • In-Wash Scent Boosters

In-Wash Scent Boosters are designed to extend the fresh linen scent of Sheets laundry detergent sheets. These boosters can keep clothes smelling fresh for up to 12 weeks. Learn more here.

Sheets claims that these boosters are safe for colors and all fabrics, but the ingredients are only perfumes and dyes. I’d be cautious with delicate or expensive fabrics, and if you have sensitive skin or allergies you might want to give these a miss entirely.

  • Dryer Sheets

Dryer sheets are designed to reduce static in your clothes while making them feel softer. They’ve come under fire among conscientious consumers of late for questionable ingredients and environmental impact. Sheets Laundry Club’s dryer sheets are no different, sadly.

These come in six varieties, including a Free & Clear one that includes the substance di-(palm carboxyethyl) hydroxyethyl methylammonium methyl, which earns a D from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) for exacerbating asthma and “developmental and reproductive toxicity.” Learn more about these dryer sheets here.

  • Booster+ Stain Fighter Packs

These 12-use Boost and Stain Fighter Packs are used in tandem with the laundry detergent to help get rid of stubborn stains. They work well even with heavily soiled white clothes. The packs can be used in all types of washing machines, as well as in either hot or cold water.

You’re better off giving these a miss, too, though. They include benzenesulfonic acid, which gets a D from the EWG for causing asthma attacks and skin allergies. Since the main ingredient is baking soda, you’re better off treating your stains with pure baking soda alone, without all the harsh additives of this stain fighter.

Why Sheets Laundry Club?

While traditional laundry detergents are still widely used, many consumers grow increasingly sick of how inconvenient they are, with their endless measuring and spilling, as well as getting weary of the impact they have on the environment. Laundry detergent remains one of the most significant barriers to living a sustainable lifestyle, thanks to the harmful chemicals it puts into the environment and the heavy plastic jugs it’s shipped in.

Sheets Laundry Club helps address this by offering plastic-free packaging and products that address all the issues associated with conventional alternatives. They’re convenient to ship and store, don’t have a large carbon footprint, have vegan and natural ingredients, and are generally safe and gentle.

What’s great about Sheets Laundry Club is its low price and extensive product line. But be sure to read the ingredients of each product and research them before buying. Not all of Sheets’ products are completely gentle and eco-friendly.

Sheets Laundry Club is a good start for consumers who want to be more eco-friendly with everything they do. It targets people who want to switch to sustainable and environmentally friendly cleaning habits. It’s also a great option if you want laundry detergent sheets that don’t cause any spillage or waste when you’re doing your laundry, while also reducing your carbon footprint.

Why not Sheets?

Sheets Laundry Club produces laundry detergent sheets and similar products specifically for people who want to live an eco-friendly lifestyle. If you’re fine with the environmental impact your laundry and cleaning habits have, this might not be the choice for you.

Another reason consumers might want to give Sheets a miss is some of the questionable ingredients in some of its products. From sodium lauryl sulfate in the detergent sheets to perfumes and dyes in the scent boosters, there are plenty of additives here to be wary of, especially if you have allergies or sensitive skin.

My Sheets Laundry Club review

Cleaning power: 4.5/5

Sheet’s laundry detergent sheets offer an exceptional cleaning performance, and they shouldn’t have a problem tackling tough stains and odors, no matter what kind of fabrics you’re cleaning. It matches – if not beats – many competitors, even when it comes to traditional detergents.

The only reason they’re missing half a point is because stains like wine won’t be removed by cleaning with this. It’s also possible they could make bright clothes relatively dull.

Price: 4.8/5

Sheets products offer a good value for their cost. The fact that they’re free of a lot of harsh chemicals and safe for most allergies, and that they work in all washing machines and hot or cold water means anyone can use them with ease. They offer the same performance as a conventional counterpart without the same environmental impact.

The price per load is a reasonable $0.19.

Product line: 4.9/5

Sheets Laundry Club offers an extensive range of products, with this being much larger than some of its competitors. These cater specifically to consumer needs, and are completely gluten-free, vegan, plastic-free, and only include natural ingredients.

Outside of the laundry detergent sheets, the company offers dryer sheets and in-wash scent boosters. The self-care category includes handcrafted soap bars, shampoo bars, and deodorant, while the kitchen range boasts a dishwasher detergent, dish and utensil scrub, eco-friendly floor cleaner, and solid dish soap.

Customer service: 4/5

Reviews highlight how fast, professional, and effective the customer service team is, while also mentioning how quick and easy the refund process is. Solutions to customer issues are presented immediately, and Sheets is easy to get in touch with.

That being said, Sheets does seem to make returns as difficult as possible. You must return within 30 days and you have to pay the shipping yourself. There’s no easy way to return, either. You’ll need to contact customer service to arrange it.

Convenience: 4.5/5

Using Sheet’s products is as simple as taking one out of the box and adding it to your wash. The compact and lightweight design also makes them easy to store. There’s also no mess or spillage to deal with at any point, a welcome departure from all the measuring and spilling that comes with liquid laundry detergent.

Eco-friendliness: 3/5

Not only do Sheets products contain a few questionable ingredients, it doesn’t seem that the brand does much for the planet outside of selling eco-friendly products. Other detergent brands, like Earth Breeze, go out of their way to partner with organizations that work tirelessly to improve the state of the planet. Sheets should take a page from their book.

Overall: 4.28/5

Sheets Laundry Club’s products are easy to use and safe for the environment. The packaging is completely biodegradable, so it doesn’t harm the environment. From the product to the packaging, switching to Sheets will help reduce your carbon footprint.

Other Sheets Laundry Club reviews

There aren’t any Sheets Laundry Club reviews on Trustpilot or the Better Business Bureau, which is an area the company needs to work on. It makes it look like Sheets has something to hide if they don’t, or that no one is using it. Despite this, it has reviews on a few other platforms.

Sheets Laundry Club has an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars on Google My Business, and customers highlighted how professional the customer service team is, how high-quality and effective the laundry detergent is, and how well-priced the products are. Overall, customers who commented on Google were satisfied with their purchases.

There are multiple Sheets Laundry Club reviews on the company’s Facebook page, averaging 4.8 out of 5 stars. These reviews highlight the quality of the products and the professionalism of the customer service team. The social media team also took the time to respond to each of these reviews, even the negative ones.

Wrapping it up

Doing laundry can be a time-consuming process and result in a lot of spillage and waste, especially if you use a liquid detergent. Sheets Laundry Club solves that by having packaging that’s easy to use, lightweight, and compact.

Sheets has gained a positive reputation, despite being a relatively new company in the market. The limited number of online platforms it’s listed on have positive reviews that testify to the company’s quality and dedication to removing its impact on the environment.

The eco-friendliness of this laundry detergent can be measured by the fact that they don’t generate any plastic waste and they have a minimal carbon footprint. However, not every ingredient is as eco-friendly as Sheets would have you believe. Still, they’re a step up from traditional liquid detergents full of wasted water and loads of toxins.
